Classes

Bev has been teaching beginning and intermediate silver smiting at the Cape Coral Arts Studio (CCAS) for over four years. The class's sessions are 5, 7 or 8 weeks long. Sessions are on going. For more information regarding the start of the next session, please contact:

Cape Coral Arts Studio

(ask for Phyllis, the registrar)

The CCAS is run by the City of Cape Coral. The current classrooms are very well equipped and are fairly large. Class sizes range from 6-12 students. Cost of classes is very reasonable. One of the greatest benefits the Studio provides is the School Store. The store stocks all the necessary tools and supplies to get started for each discipline taught there. They are also well stocked with consumables, like silver, solder, flux and stones for making jewelry.

"I thoroughly enjoy my time teaching. Each new class of beginners produces new friends that usually take the next step into my intermediate class. I just love the excitement in their eyes when they start to understand the processes. Jewelry is one of the arts where you never stop learning. There are so many different facets of jewelry and techniques to learn. Once learned, they become another piece of information that can be employed at any time and blended with other techniques. The imagination runs wild and creativity never ends".

Bev also offers private lessons in her personal studio for those who prefer one-on-one instruction. For more information, please contact Bev at her email address.

Workshops

Bev teaches workshops nationally and locally.. For Florida Society of Goldsmiths (FSG) in 2005, Bev taught workshops in Keum-Boo, Fold Forming, No Solder Wire Beads and Byzantine Chain. In the past Bev has taught Loop-In-Loop fused chain and Soldered Link Chains. She taught a spiculum/fold form workshop in August of 2006 for FSG¹s Mountain Metals program in Georgia at William Holland.

Workshop Descriptions
Spiculums

Spiculum: A double pointed hollow form.
In this workshop you will make more than one spiculum from copper or silver sheet. You will be working with a variety of hammers and stakes. Spiculums can then be used whole or in part to create earrings, pins and pendants. Also, spiculums are very strong forms which can also be used as legs on bowls & boxes, handles on flatware or any where your imagination wants to take them.

Fold Forming & Non-Conforming Dies
This workshop will engage your imagination. We will be working with hammers and other tools to make material that can be used whole or in part to create jewelry and sculpture.
Fold Forming: Fold forming is derived from the Japanese art of origami combined with traditional metalsmithing techniques and executed with a minimum of equipment: rolling mill, a few hammers and a steel block.
Non-Conforming Dies: Cut a hole (shape) in a sheet of masonite or Plexiglas and form metal by pressing it into the hole. Shapes can be made shallow or deep.
Note: This is a very exciting discovery process when used in conjunction with fold forms. The focus of this workshop is to expand your world to include new metal shapes that can be made easily with very few tools. Learn just how far metal can be stretched and formed to create shapes you never thought possible.
