Each time I showed my clasp to someone, they would ask me if I had patented it yet. I heard this so many times that I started to believe it truly was a unique concept and decided to look into how to obtain a patent. So, I got on the Internet and read up on it. I was surprised to find out that you cannot sell one or publish it in anyway before you apply for a patent. Luckily, I had done neither.
It really is quite an undertaking to begin and follow through with the patent process, not to mention it is really expensive. But, here it is. I am honored to have joined a unique group called inventors. Thomas Edison and Henry Ford lived my town for many years. It is almost impossible to live here without visiting the estate homes and workshop/museum at least once. Of course, when I invented this clasp I wasn't thinking of Thomas and Henry's greatness. No, I was just working out a problem I had with a jewelry design. I asked two engineers how they would resolve the problem and they gave it back to me with no advice. It took me about three months of thinking and redesigning before the clasp took its final shape. Now, it is going through more research to make it more manufacturing friendly.
